About 5 years ago, the kids and I made a DIY that the kids and I really enjoyed. This is a craft everyone in the family can jump in on. All you need are a few items you probably have in your craft bin.
What you don’t have, jump in the car and make a quick trip to the Dollar Tree. You probably have one within a few miles of your house!

Supplies:

8″ wire wreath
100 wooden clothespins
Red, white and blue acrylic paint
Craft paint brush
Stick on foam or wooden stars
Ribbon
Scissors
Glue gun

Instructions:

Step 1: Paint each clothespin with your acrylic paint. To fill the 8″ wire wreth, you will paint 45 red, 45 white and 6 blue. The acrylic paint is perfect for the younger kids or you can use spray paint for the older kids and adults.

Step 2: Dry your clothespins completely before clipping them to your wreath. We clipped them to a wooden skewer, but you can clip them to anything.

Step 3: You are going to clip your clothespins to the BACK of the wreath. This will be the side the curves up instead of down.

Step 4: You are going to clip your clothespins in groups of 3 red, then 3 white until you have used those colors up. Next you will fill in the rest of the space with the blue. You will find you need to shift the bottom of the clothespins to fan them out a bit so they all fit into the curve of the wreath.

Step 5: Apply your stars. We found foam stick on stars i silver, gold and white. You can also paint wooden stars, or use whatever you like to jazz up your DIY Dollar Tree Patriotic Clothespin Wreath! Because you may be hanging your wreath outside, I recommend sealing it with Mod Podge or another brand of sealer.

Decide where you want your top middle clothespin to be. Cut the length of ribbon and using your glue gun, apply your ribbon to the back of that top middle clothespin. Now you are ready to hang your amazing wreath!

Instructions

  • Paint 45 clothespins red, 45 clothespins white and 8 clothespins blue
  • Allow clothespins to dry completely
  • Attach clothespins to the rounded side of the wire wreath
  • Group clothespins 3 red, then 3 white until those colors are all used. Then attach the blue
  • Attach the stars to the blue clothespins
  • Spray the clothespins with the sealant
  • Cut a length of ribbon, tie in a small knot at the end, attach to the back of the top, middle clothespin with the glue gun. Allow to dry for 30 seconds. Hang from your wreath hanger.
